Traditional Gifts Are Better At Xmas

Despite the fact that the Zhu Zhu Pets were only launched in August of 2009, they have become a huge success already. Children across the country have just gone crazy for the cute little motorized hamsters that feature artificial intelligence which allows them to interact with their surroundings, other Zhu Zhu hamsters and the kids who are playing with them.

Besides the fact that these robot hamsters are small, cute and furry, kids just love the interaction. The team of hamsters – Mr. Squiggles, Chunk, Pipsqueak, Patches and Num Nums – have a total of 40 different sounds which they produce when given the right cue. For instance, when they enter into the bathroom of their hamster habitat, they emit tooth brushing sounds. If they enter their hamster bedroom then they produce snoring noises.

However, a lot of retailers have quite deliberately set stock levels of toys in general at unusually low levels this year. This is due in part to the current economic climate and partly due to the fact that stock levels were too high last year. Many retailers had to offer large discounts in order to empty their shelves.

It’s easy to see the logic behind the decision – but considering upon the evidence up to now, the retailers may have misjudged the mood of consumers. Popular toys like the Zhu Zhu pets and Mattel’s Mindflex game are flying off the shelves. Demand is much higher than supply and it’s becoming difficult to find these toys in the stores. This is only going to get worse the closer we get to Christmas.

Having realised their mistake, many retailers are now ordering new stock. However, most toys are produced in the Far East these days. That means that delivery will include a sea voyage of four weeks or so. Replenishing stocks in time for Christmas could prove difficult.

As a consequence of the imbalance between supply and demand, it is now possible to find Zhu Zhu hamsters on eBay for more than $ 150. That’s way higher than the recommended retail price – and these prices could rise even higher as we get closer to Christmas. It does seem like a high price to pay for a child’s toy which, even if it is the latest craze, is highly likely to be yesterday’s news in just a few short months.

If you don’t want to pay an excessive price for the latest trend, then you could always choose more traditional gifts this Christmas. Classic traditional toys such as Lego, Monopoly, Scrabble and Hornby Dublo train sets are classics with good reason. They are an ever popular addition to any youngster’s toy collection and they will probably still be in use and giving enjoyment long after this year’s fad is history.

Use LED Christmas Lights for a Greener Holiday

One way of making your Christmas season greener is by using LED Christmas lights instead of conventional Christmas lights. These days most stores that sell Christmas lights include the LED variety on their shelves as well. This year’s Christmas really can be greener than those that have preceded it!

LED Christmas lights last ten times longer and consume less energy than the traditional lights. They use 75% less energy. Imagine saving on your energy bill during this holiday season when you use this type of lighting.

Just like traditional string lights, LED Christmas lights come in various shapes and sizes, such as “globe,” or “mini.” Both icicle and net forms are on the market as well. Regardless of the color you prefer, you should be able to find them in stores.

The LED type of Christmas lights are safer when compared to conventional lights. You don’t, for instance, have to worry about overheating even if you connect together several strands. That said, you should still find out how many strands the manufacturer says you can safely connect by consulting the box or manual.

If you want to go even greener with your holiday decorations, select solar powered LED Christmas lights. These lights harness the energy of the sun, thereby making them more energy friendly. Some models automatically light up at night. A 50-light string might cost around $17 on Amazon. Because of this, you can save both energy and money if you buy LED string lighting of this type.

Sometimes people balk at the initial cost of LED Christmas lights. And, of course, it’s true that traditional incandescent bulbs are less expensive than LED light strings. That said, more efficient and greener lighting solutions pay for themselves in the long run despite the higher initial investment.

If you don’t want to purchase LED Christmas lights because you still have working incandescent strands, you can get Christmas light timers to use with your existing lights. These timers regulate the amount of energy your lights use. In addition, these timers can give your house the appearance of someone being home when you’re away visiting friends and family during the holiday season because they turn on and off automatically, thereby helping to protect your home.

Speaking of safety, whether you’re using LED or incandescent Christmas lights, you should observe safety first. When you unplug the lights, don’t pull on the cord. This can tear at the wiring inside. When preparing to store light strands until the next holiday season, ensure there are no non-working bulbs or other kinds of damage before storing strings of lights. Don’t use lights that have loose connections, broken sockets, or bare wires. Store Christmas Lights, and any electrical decorations, in a dry place where they can’t be damaged by water. Keep them out of children’s reach during storage, to ensure the wires are not damaged.

We can make our future — and our planet — greener as we celebrate our family and religious beliefs during this celebratory holiday season. Because every little bit counts, don’t forget that our steps can go a long way when combined.

Vintage Postcards

Postcards have been around for a long time now; almost for about 150 years. Postcards have maintained their populartiy for many reasons. Today, the postcard templates that you can locate on the web have made it inexpensive and easy to print and mail. Also, postcard collecting is a huge hobby, third to only stamp and coin collecting. Many people love to collect souvenir postcards from places they visit as a great way to visualize their past vacations.

Postcards started becoming popular in the late 19th century when many countries across the world started printing postcards with photos and images of their country?s most famous places and landmarks. In 1889, the first ever postcard showing the Eiffel Tower was printed.

Today you can collect all kinds of postcards from almost every country around the world. Whether you are traveling to Rome, Venice, Japan or India, you can buy souvenir postcards from there which have pictures or even events of those places.

Some of the souvenir postcards may be worth a lot of money because of the origin; the older the postcard the better its worth. There are many people who only collect postcards from one particular place, like a country; some prefer a particular style of postcard, some enjoy collecting postcards of a particular theme whereas others collect souvenir postcards from around the world in various different styles.

If you travel a lot then collecting postcards should not be difficult for you as you can get souvenir postcards from every destination you visit. People interested in collecting postcardsshould take utmost care when preserving old postcards and make sure there is no damaged caused to them because of any environmental issues or rough handling. They should not be exposed to chemicals which may harm the post cards for ever.

Postcard collectors are also known as a deltiologist (It originates from a Greek word which means collector of small pictures or writings). In the early 1900’s, postcards grew rapidly in popularity and availability. Over a billion postcards were sold in a year in the United States alone.

The Best Christmas Gifts

Around our house, we look forward to Christmas. Our favorites are many and we look forward to cookie baking each December. The wine cookies and the date-filled cookies recipes are part of a family tradition that has been passed down from my grandmother and very possibly my great-grandmother. For me it just wouldn’t be Christmas without them! Of course, we also enjoy the frosted cut-out sugar cookies! Throughout the year, I make batches of cookies, but typically they are chocolate chip, peanut butter or oatmeal raisin. Frosting Christmas cookies bring joy to our whole family.

Wine, date-filled, and frosted cut-out cookies are extra special during the Christmas season. Usually the week before Christmas my sisters and I, plus our kids, gather together at Grandma’s home for the annual “Cookie Day”.

Prior to “Cookie Day”, all of us have also been busy baking other kinds of cookies: peanut blossoms, gingerbread boys, snowballs, frosted brownie cookies, mincemeat, pecan tarts, Martha Stewart’s butterscotch cookies, etc.

We bring our batches of homemade cookies to Grandma’s for the huge cookie exchange that follows after a few hours of decorating the cut-outs. We use many different colors of powdered sugar frosting and further embellish the cookies with sprinkles and colored sugars. Some decorated cookies are truly beautiful!

When the last cookie has been decorated, we clean up the mess – tons of frosting cover the table and of course, the mess also spills onto the chairs! Then we set out all the batches of cookies everyone brought. We have more than enough cookies to assemble a yummy assortment in boxes for gift giving, for colleagues at work and for our homes. It’s exhausting but, a tradition we value because we spend family time together.

Some of the most important things about Christmas is:

  • Lighting the advent candles
  • Opening gifts
  • The Christmas tree
  • Making Christmas cookies
  • Putting up the Christmas Lights

Inexpensive gift ideas are fun to share with family and friends. The best Christmas presents, given and/or received, might include a new car, a clean bill of health, all the family together, a special vacation, a laptop computer, a big screen TV, the newest technological apparatus, even the wonder in a child’s eyes when they receive their favorite gifts!

I try to choose just the right gift that will bring joy to each person on my Christmas list. I try to think of gifts that are things that perhaps they won’t buy for themselves, the practical as well as sometimes the extravagant! Something that surprises brings great pleasure! Most of us want to show the depth of our love tothe special people in our lives and choosing a present with them in mind is one way to demonstrate our love.

For many people, the most treasured gifts are from the heart. If you are on a tight budget, be creative with thoughtful, inexpensive gifts such as cookie mixes in a jar; homemade fudge, hand knit scarves, mittens, caps, salt clay ornaments, craft projects, photo calendars and mini-albums filled with pictures taken during the past year; gift containers filled with themed items.

Personally created presents deliver as much joy as store-bought presents. Too many times we equate love with how much money we spend, but the most important thing to keep in mind is to give (and receive) from our hearts. The very best X-mas gift is LOVE, and of course, the purest form of love is JESUS! LOVE was born at Christmas. Because God gave us the greatest gift of Jesus, we know the joy of giving to those we honor.

Fun family stories keep everyone in the Christmas spirit. In these economic times, consider trying to keep Christmas gift-giving simpler. Trying some of these ideas will even be fun! Once you start, your own creativity and imagination will be unleashed and gift-giving might be less stressful and not too expensive!

Other inexpensive gift ideas include:
Special Books of Unique Interest
A bottle of wine
A wooden spoon and a potholder or 2
A child’s hand prints framed
Post-it notes
A photo calendar with family pictures adding and the dates of everyone’s birthdays and anniversaries written in.

You may want to use a special container, a basket, bag, bowl, or bin, and turn it into a gift basket, filled with treasures! For example, include a jar of favorite pasta sauce, box of whole wheat pasta, a bottle of Italian dressing, croutons, Parmesan cheese, a kitchen towel, spiced olive oil, Biscotti, etc. You have an instant Italian Pasta dinner in a bag! You can include as many items as you like. Another fun one is a popcorn bowl filled with popcorn, popcorn seasonings, candy, a DVD or gift certificate to a video store, and funny napkins. Once you start thinking of things you can put together, it is fun to give and fun to receive!

Whether I am writing out Christmas cards, finishing up sewing and knitting projects, baking cookies, or wrapping presents, listening to my variety of Christmas albums and CDs, is just what I need to stay calm, peaceful and focused on my tasks. There are so many things to do at Christmas time and stress can make a person come unglued, but music diffuses the tenseness, especially when I hear songs that remind me what Christmas is REALLY all about!

Get Moola for Your Christmas Needs

“Black Friday” is the unofficial beginning to Christmas season in the USA. I’m not sure, but I think it’s called that because that’s when a lot of companies do so much business that they get “into the black” or become profitable for the year.

As a good parent, you are of course interested in making Chrismas a happy time for your children, your spouse, and others. One way we represent our love for them is with gifts. Don’t get me wrong, that’s not the only way we show them we love them… it’s just fairly prominent at this time of year. The innocence of youth soon passes, and your kids will realize where “Santa” actually gets his money, and why it is that when things are bad for you, financially, they are also bad for Santa. Don’t let that year be this year.

If you’re like me, you’re a little cash-strapped now and could use a little extra fundage. One way to get some Christmas Cash is with a quick and easy payday loan.

Payday loans are different from other bank-type loans because you don’t have to have a credit check. This can be good if you have bad credit, or don’t want the fact that someone checked your credit to appear on your credit report. It’s basically an advance on your next paycheck.

At Christmas, it’s all about the timing. If you know you will be able to pay for your gifts with your next paycheck or two, go ahead and get it in advance, so you can make it a Merry Christmas for your entire family.

While your’re at it, one thing you should get your kids is a Personalized Letter from Santa. They”ll love it! You can put their name and whatever personal details you want into the letter. Check it out.

How To Save This Christmas

Decorating your very own home could be quite a task, especially that Christmas is now fast approaching. With all the stores in town seducing you to buy almost every available Christmas decors they have for sale, you can only hope and wished you could buy them at a lesser price. But wait! Before you get totally seduced by all those cute little decors you are dying to buy but is running out of budget at the same time, why don’t you consider some options before you go out and buy.

Before you finally decide to run and buy, why don’t you check first all your Christmas decors last year? Try to check and look at them whether you could still use them up for this year’s celebration. Have them all listed and then take note of those things that you would want to buy later. Reusing your decorations from last years Christmas celebration is not a bad idea. Actually it can add more brilliant ideas to you on creating new themes for this years celebration.

Having a theme in mind will also help you to decide on buying new decors. Take note of what you want and the decorations that would fit to your them. Do not be tempted by those cute, little shiny decors, especially if they won’t suit your theme at all.

Bazaars sell a much cheaper decorations. Malls, although they may have everything sells much higher compared to bazaars. If you wish to spend less this Christmas, I suggest you try going out to bazaars to get buy some Christmas decorations. Bazaars are far more inexpensive. You can also choose from their wide selections of decorations that would suit your theme.

A fiber optic Christmas tree is another cheap and affordable Christmas decoration becoming popular these days.I really adore my favorite fiber optic christmas tree. They are a good investment to make as they really never goes out of style and can fit every Christmas theme you have in mind. I definitely would love to recommend them to my friends and to everybody out there.
